TMAT Joint Statement in Support of Taiwan's CPTPP Application

On March 4, 2022, TMAT issued a joint statement in firm support of Taiwan's bid to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), calling on the Canadian government to back Taiwan's accession and help Taiwan complete the process at the earliest opportunity.

At the statement event, Liberal MP Judy Sgro — Chair of the Canada–Taiwan Friendship Group — and Liberal MP Salma Zahid attended via video message in support. Conservative MP Melissa Lantsman attended in person and received the statement presented by TMAT President Grace Cheng.

TMAT emphasized that Taiwan, as a leading democratic nation and trading partner, fully meets CPTPP's high standards. Taiwan's accession would strengthen supply-chain resilience across the Indo-Pacific and create vast opportunities for Canadian business. TMAT will continue working with other Taiwanese chambers across North America to champion Taiwan's standing in the international trade system.
